If you are specifically looking for help with energy bills you can also try http://www.consumerfocus.org.uk/get-advice/energy/help-finder These sites allow you to enter details of your individual circumstances and which debts you need help with in order to see what funds may be available to you.

Trust funds are generally independent organisations funded by an energy or water company. If you are in arrears with your bills it may be worth contacting your supplier to see if there is a trust fund you could apply to. Some trust fund websites are also listed below. Although many of these give priority to customers from the company which they are funded by, some may consider assisting customers from other companies, so even if your supplier does not have a trust fund listed here it may be worth having a look at some other company’s sites to see if they can help you.

  Untied Utilities Trust Fund may be able to help you pay water or sewerage charges owed to United Utilities or an associated company. In extreme circumstances they may also be able to assist with other household bills. Click on the link above for more information.

  WaterSure schemes provide financial assistance to those already on a water meter who need to use large amounts of water on a day to day basis, for instance because of a medical condition affecting someone in their household.

  This scheme allows customers who are in receipt of certain benefits to have water arrears taken straight out of their benefits at a set amount every month to help clear their debt.
  
  
• Arrears Allowance Scheme – http://www.unitedutilities.com/Arrearsallowance.aspx
  If you are in arrears with United Utilities but are able and willing to make some payments towards clearing them you may be accepted onto this scheme. You have to make guaranteed payments towards what you owe each week over a period of 13 weeks. At the end of this time, United Utilities will match the total amount you’ve paid to clear your arrears.

  EDF Energy Trust provides help to EDF Energy account holders or customers who are not themselves account holders but live in a house which is supplied by EDF Energy (people who are renting for example) to assist them with arrears on their energy bills.
