Where Do I Start?
Sometimes you may be unsure where to start or what you are meant to be doing. A sudden drop in
income
, for instance if you lose your job or your relationship breaks down, can be an extremely difficult time, without the added pressure that money worries bring. However if you have never had to deal with money worries or claiming
benefits
before, it can be difficult to know where to start, and you may hear conflicting advice, particularly from friends and family.
Online benefits advice services such as
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DoItOnlineByCategory/DG_172666
can be helpful to give you an idea of what you may be entitled to if you are looking at beginning to claim benefits for the first time, and you can always contact the Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB)
http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/
for general advice (or see our
Useful Organisations
page for details of other agencies who can help).
